What was your reason for naming Liv "Liv"? I named Liv "Liv" after reading an article about Liv Ullman, the actress, in TV Guide back in 1977. I thought it was the perfect name for her if she was a girl. It means "life". ![]() Liv Ullman What would you say is the most important thing that you have taught your daughter? The most important thing I hope I have taught Liv is kindness to others and all God's creatures. To be direct and look someone in the eye when speaking to them. To be professional and on time. To love yourself and treat all others as you yourself want to be treated. All the things that I have taught her could not have been taught or learned if Liv were not already a very good and honest young lady. She has always been gentle and kind, even as a child. We know that you are a talented singer - and that Liv also has a great voice, as well as sharing your passion for singing. Is there any chance of you recording a duet together? My dream is to do a duet with Liv on my next record. We've talked about it and I think it's a great idea. It would be delightful. ![]() "My dream is to do a duet with Liv" Are there any sides to Liv's personality that you think are typical of you or Steven? That's a funny question - there is so much of both of us in and Todd too in Liv's personality. When she was little she stood just like Todd when she was "thinking" about something important. She has bits of all of us and then the individual things that are uniquely Liv. She has only the best of us three. Do you have any particular memories of Liv as a young girl that you would like to share with us? Liv was a happy and active child. She was warm and comforting. I have so many fond memories it would be impossible to list them all.
Do you and Liv ever give each other advice on your careers - such as what film roles to take, or what songs to record? We always discuss things with each other. For the first five years of her career I was her manager. Her opinion about music is always helpful to me - she really knows her stuff! Liv is a very good listener and she is a fast learner. I'm lucky to have her to bounce ideas off of. We've always been very connected that way. With Liv being 17-18 years old when she got the part of Lucy Harmon in Stealing Beauty, Did you have some concerns or reservations for her doing this movie and living in Italy for the duration of the film? She graduated from high school and then went off to start filming. I went with her. She turned 18 in Italy on the set of Stealing Beauty. We had a grand party at a gorgeous Villa and stayed in one of the most beautiful hotels in Siena. Her grammy and Annie came for a visit too. We went on trips to Rome, Piza, Venice - it was one of the happiest times of my life. I wasn't at all worried. It was like a big family and she was such a pro. She was so good in Stealing Beauty. It is one of my favorites still. In 2001 you released your autobiography "Rebel Heart: An American Rock'n'Roll Journey". Do you have any future book projects? What about new records? Yes, I have three more book ideas. I'm making my next record and performing live with a band. I'm also modeling again which is divine! I'm with the IMG Agency. What do you think of the music scene nowadays as compared to the Sixties and Seventies? Well, the music scene today is more corporate and less geared to the artist and development of talent. I love some of the new music though - like the White Stripes, Incubus, Kings of Leon, Muse, Vacationland, Sparticle, Jet, The Vines - I love MUSIC from all eras! Your mother, You and your daughter are a wonderful example of how beauty runs in the family. Your mother was also a model. How did you and your mother get into modeling? My mother modeled in the 50's and had her own "charm school" for girls. I got into the business from some photos that my mom sent to the agent Eileen Ford. She sent for me at the age of 18 and I was off to New York City in 1972. Liv was born in 1977. ![]() Bebe Buell, Liv Tyler, Dorothea Johnson - 3 generations of Beauty If you have a message for the fans or any comments about this website, now would be a good time! What I wish for her is continued true love, good health, a family of her own (grandchildren for me), a wonderful career, personal happiness for she and Roy, long life for darling Neal and for her to find all of her dreams. She seems to be on her way. I bless the day she was born. Livvy, Mommy loves you. xoxo I'm so proud of you and the beautiful person you are inside and out! Bebe Buell, NYC 2004 ![]() |
