She's loving London and luxuriating in the lifestyle of the British gentry hanging out with the Beckhams, helicoptering to Glastonbury and frolicking in the countryside. Is the American actress Liv Tyler becoming the quintessential English rose asks Jane Mulkerrins
Hollywood star Liv Tyler is the October cover. The daughter of Aerosmith frontman Steve Tyler and model Bebe Buell, Tyler was born into rock 'n' roll royalty, but through her relationship with David Beckham's manager Dave Gardner, the ex-boyfriend of Davinia Taylor, she has become a member of the British social set, too. Indeed, it is through her fiancé that she found herself at the Royal Wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank last year, and also helicoptering into Glastonbury to celebrate her birthday with David and Victoria Beckham. Tyler, then, is uniquely positioned to comment on the differences between the US and UK when it comes to the class system.
'As an American, I find the [British] class system really oppressive,' she says. 'We're raised that anyone can be anything they want; if you work hard at something, apply yourself, you can come from nothing and have everything. You can also have everything and go to nothing.'
She was particularly charmed by the Royal Wedding, saying: 'Sitting in the church was my favourite part of the whole experience... I don't even have the words to describe how magical it was. And then the protocol of who came in where and went out where, and where we were sitting and how to behave - it was so interesting. And then, once it was over and we got into the party, it was very relaxed and very fun and very playful. Suddenly, everything got very loose and not at all formal.'
After getting engaged in 2015, is there a wedding on the horizon for Tyler herself soon? 'I love being engaged, but I don't really have a desire to get married,' she explains. 'I always felt like marriage should be more of a reward... For surviving your relationship... I feel everyone's got it backwards.'
After appearing in TV series The Leftovers and Harlots for the past few years, Tyler is returning to the big screen this autumn with Ad Astra, an action film set in space with Brad Pitt in the lead. 'It was really nice for me to do a film again,' she says. 'I love TV; TV's been kind to me in the past few years and I've found some characters that I really like, but I think in my heart of hearts, I really love making films.'
Clearly channelling her early modelling days, the ethereal beauty wears a series of stunning headpieces and hats in the shoot, as well as that Molly Goddard dress, which was styled by Tatler's Fashion Director Sophie Pera and photographed by Jack Waterlot at her second home in New York.
