Everyone knows her story: Daughter of Bebe Buell (a 70's model), she grew up in Portland (Maine), beleiving rocker Todd Rundgren to be her real father. At the age of ten, she finds out that it's really Aerosmith's Steven Tyler
She is 14 when she starts out as a model in New York, where she lives why her mother. Her movie debut rapidly becomes successful when she stared in the cult film Heavy
(1995). Her incredible carrer includes roles in Stealing Beauty
(1998), Cookie's Fortune
(1999) and Dr. T and the Women
(2000) not to forget the golden role of Arwen Evenstar in the Lord of the Rings
trilogy. And she's only 26 years old!
Still, when I met Liv Tyler in New York last june, nothing about her hinted of the neurotic egocentrism so typical to celebrities. She seemed relaxed, open and confident. One thing is for sure, her beauty is stunning.
"Ravishing" is the word that comes to mind when you see those blue eyes and that smile.
However, at Givenchy, the host of this meeting, we would probably chose the word "Irresistible" since Tyler is the image of their new fragrance Very Irresistible Givenchy
When I ask her if she thinks every woman wishes to be irresistible, she answers: "All I know is that *I* want to be. Everyone has there own interpretation of this word but, for me, irresistible rhymes with individuality and spontaneity."
What about her fragrance habits ? "I'm a little peculiar, about it", confesses Tyler. "When I wake up, I ask myself, who do I want to be today ? And I chose accordingly. My choice changes according to the persons I am with or the places where I am" But apparently, she doesn't use metamorphosis to get into the skin of her movie roles. "But it sometimes happens that while wearing costumes and playing a role, I associate a ceratin perfume to a character", she says.
When we start talking about the Givenchy fragrance, qualified as lively, modernly floral, with hints of many different kind of roses, Tyler adds: "creeping rose-trees are my favorites. I love their exuberance when they explode in a profusion of roses! I'm planting some back at home."
You mean "planting" as in "on your knees and hands in the dirt ?" Tyler clarifies: "In fact, I chose some rose-trees and people will come and plant them while I'm not there (at her new house in New-York.)
Still, this beauty's passion for gardening seems sincere. She once said : "I'm nothing like the characters I play in movies. I love being home, cooking and gardening. Nothing is more relaxing then to work in the garden and then sit and admire what you have done."
But these days, Tyler can't afford to stay home (with her husband Spacehog rocker Royston Langdon). She is coming back from Paris where she did the photos for the Very Irresistible Givenchy campaign and shot a mini-film that will be used for televison publicity. Soon, she will be flying to New-Zealand for the premiere of the final part of the Lord of the Rings, coming to theatre this decembre.
When I learn that she will be in Jersey Girl (2004) co-staring Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, I can't help but to ask her if she has been invited to the big wedding. "I didn't get any invitation yet" she laughs. "They probably get a lot of pressure, it's very stressing to get married. I hope that whatever they will chose, it will turn out good for them. I'm so happy that Roy and I could afford a nice intimate little wedding."
