General Liv Discussion / Q&A with Ursin DeRoche (exclusive)
« on: June 18, 2010, 12:49:06 AM »
Ursin DeRoche, Liv's guitar teacher for The Ledge, offered to answer our questions regarding his experience with Liv. Since we are a curious bunch, we sent him no less than 11 questions! He was very kind, and answered all of the them in a matter of hours.

  • Did you write the composition for the movie yourself?

Not to give too much away of course, but the piece is fairly well known. It was arranged for solo guitar by someone whose name slips my mind right now. He did an outstanding job. I was given the music he had written and my job was to teach it to Liv. She had already been preparing, and I'd say she was about 50% of the way there on it by the time I got involved with the project. It came out very well. I was more than happy with what we accomplished.

  • How long is the composition and does it include singing?

I would say it's roughly 3 minutes. No singing, just guitar. Very nice and atmospheric. I'm sure all of her fans will enjoy it.

  • How did you find the experience of teaching Liv?

Oh, gosh, Liv was absolutely amazing! Just a wonderful person. Very fun to be around. But also, very serious when it comes to her art. She takes this stuff very seriously as you can imagine. So we worked very hard on getting everything 100% correct. She didn't want to fake it. She has a very serious work ethic. I had a tremendous time working with her and I gained a lot of respect for her as an artist and performer. She deserves all of the fame she has achieved. She is a very hard worker and very committed to her craft.

  • Do you know if Liv owns a guitar?

Oh yes, Liv owns a few guitars from what I understand. She had one that she was traveling with and a small amp. But she didn't have a cable, you know, to plug the guitar into the amp. She liked a purple one that I had and so I let her use it and I never got it back! Liv, please send the purple cable back!!!

  • Do you know if Liv plays any other instruments, and does she intend to keep on training her guitar skills?

I don't believe she plays any other instruments although she did mention experimenting with the bass in her younger days. She should definitely continue with guitar! Plus, she has a great singing voice. She is extremely talented. But you know, her modeling and acting keeps her very busy I'm sure so guitar may have to wait!

  • Did Liv particularly enjoy mastering any contemporary/classic songs on the guitar, and if so could you name a few of them?

She did ask me to show her some songs by Neil Young and Graham Parsons. Liv is very normal. She doesn't sit around and listen to Aerosmith all the time! That wouldn't be very normal now would it? I can't recall off hand what these songs were but she was very interested in a lot of singer/songwriter type music. All very good. She has great taste... of course!

  • Do you have any other photos with Liv that you can share with us?

Sadly no. But cameras seemed to be going off everywhere. I'm sure other photos will surface.

  • Did you get to view any footage from The Ledge?

Well, of course I was on the set quite a bit and saw some scenes being filmed. The cast is simply amazing. Just a lot of great actors. From what I saw, I know the acting is top notch. I suspect it will be a very enjoyable film.

  • Do you think Liv will be able to replace her dad and/or Joe Perry in Aerosmith?

Ha! Not quite yet I'm afraid! But I'm always available to step in if Joe needs to take a break! What an amazing band. I was hugely influenced by their older material from the 70's and I've seen them live on a couple of occasions. They are still killing it.

  • Could you tell us a bit about yourself? For example, are you working on any other projects at the moment, and where can we catch you at any shows or performances?

Wow, so many things are happening right now. I'm currently taking some lessons from Pebber Brown who is just an amazing musician and someone I really admire ( Because, you know, I always want to keep learning. I never want to stop trying to achieve greater things on the instrument. I love guitar and I love music. Understanding it is a lifelong journey. Also, teaching my own students keeps me very busy. On top of that, I have had some really cool offers come my way and we will see what happens. I would like to record a rock album, get it out to the fans, and hit the road because playing live is just the best. Hopefully, everyone can keep up with me on facebook and myspace. I am also in the process of launching which is still being constructed, so, that will be another way for fans to keep up with what I'm doing. I hope to see you all very soon!

  • And finally, after graduating the Ursin DeRoche Shred Academy, did Liv's shredding skills improve?

Liv is definitely on her way to being an excellent guitar player.  I hope she sticks with it!

What a great guy! Thank you, Ursin DeRoche!

And I just can't wait to see that scene in The Ledge!

General Liv Discussion / Liv to Front Men's Fragrance
« on: April 01, 2010, 02:21:30 AM »
According to Givenchy's website, Liv is going to front a new Givenchy fragrance for men! We have established this curious piece of information through our sources, although details are still not clear.

The name of the new fragrance will be published soon along with a full-blown advertising campaign. Apparently, Liv has actually shaved her head for the campaign and will be dressed as a man.

In an audio interview for Givenchy, Liv explains that although she likes her new hairdo, she has been wearing a wig in the time since the campaign photoshoot (about a month ago), because it was essential for her role in the movie The Ledge.

Also, she mentions that in order to appear manly enough, she has taken a construction site job to build up her muscles! When asked about her new physique, Liv said that she loved it and vowed to never wear dresses again.

We have a short segment from the interview, where Liv talks about why she accepted the job, which you can download here.

General Liv Discussion / TWLOHA Charity
« on: January 22, 2010, 10:58:13 AM »
Liv Tyler and Joaquin Phoenix just shot a short video to support the cause of To Write Love on Her Arms, "a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide." It should be up on YouTube soon!

From CNN:

This week, 100 charities are battling for votes on Facebook to win $1 million.

The competition is a new approach to philanthropic giving and is led by JPMorgan Chase, which throughout the competition will donate a total of $5 million to 100 charities chosen by Facebook users.

Traditionally, organizations would go through a grant process, and Chase would choose who would get its money and how much. However, late last year, Chase decided to take a different approach and put the power of choosing charities into the hands of Americans.

Chase took a database filled with 500,000 nonprofit organizations and uploaded the information on to Facebook. The bank then allowed "crowdsourcing" to choose which charities should be recognized.

The top 100 charities won $25,000 and advanced to the second round, where another vote will determine which organization will win $1 million. The five runners-up in the second round will receive $100,000 each.

Another $1 million will be given to a single charity chosen from the original group by a Chase board of directors set up to oversee this competition.

TWLOHA are currently in second place.

Could one of these "very special guests" be Liv?

Liv's Family / Steven Tyler to write his memoir
« on: August 07, 2008, 06:28:33 PM »
Steven Tyler is going to write his memoir!
From CNBC:

Dude Looks Like An Author - Rock Star Steven Tyler To Bare All!

Yikes this is a stretch on a business news website – but I’ve got a major league crush on him so I’m going with it!
The man who makes me “Crazy” – Steven Tyler of Aerosmith is going to write his memoir – FINALLY!!!
Ecco – an imprint of Harper Collins has just inked the deal for the world rights/writes.
Tyler, the lip-blessed, Grammy Award-winning lead singer and Rock ‘n Roll of Fame inductee is promising to bare all (YEAH!) saying in the release, … “I’ve been mythicized, Mick-icized, eulogized and fooligized, I’ve been Cole-Portered and farmer’s-daughtered, I’ve been Led Zepped and 12-stepped. I’m a rhyming fool and so cool that me, Fritz the Cat, and Mohair Sam are the baddest cats that am. I have so many outrageous stories, too many, and I’m gonna tell ’em all. All the unexpurgated, brain-jangling tales of debauchery, sex & drugs, transcendence & chemical dependence you will ever want to hear. And this is not just my take, this is the unbridled truth, the in-your-face, up-close and prodigious tale of Steven Tyler straight from the horse’s lips.”
Aerosmith has 21 Billboard Top 40 hits, including “Walk This Way,” “Angel,” “Dream On,” and “Dude (Looks Like A Lady),” – they've sold 150 million albums and they hold the record for most gold and multi-platinum albums by an American group.
Ecco says…"The memoir will trace Tyler's youth in the Bronx…his legendary partnership with Joe Perry, the meteoric rise, fall, and rise of Aerosmith …their music, his epic romantic life, his relationship with his four children (including actress Liv Tyler), life on the road and in the spotlight, the economics of the rock star business --and all the sex, drugs, and rock and roll a reader could ask for."
Publication will be in 2009 – and to blatantly steal a great line from Ecco’s publisher, Daniel Halpern … "I don’t want to miss a thing!"

Liv's Family / Royston Langdon to front Velvet Revolver?
« on: July 30, 2008, 05:54:30 PM »
Interesting news, from MTV:

Scott Weiland is out of the picture, and Sebastian Bach has respectfully bowed out, due to his BFF status with Axl Rose. So Velvet Revolver have dug deep into the 1990s alt-rock well and reportedly started rehearsing with diminutive Spacehog singer (and Liv Tyler’s estranged husband) Royston Langdon. The “In the Meantime” vocalist, whose powerhouse operatic glam pipes landed him some David Bowie comparisons back in the day, is high on VR’s list after a few good rehearsals, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“They all got along great,” an anonymous insider told the magazine of recent jam sessions in Los Angeles. “It was really a refreshing change for the band.” While the band’s management wouldn’t comment other than to say they’re still auditioning singers, another unnamed source — this time at VR’s label, RCA — confirmed that Langdon is “definitely in the mix.”
The EW report comes just a week after Spacehog drummer Jonny Cragg posted news of the band’s reunion on the MySpace page of Arckid, another group he plays in with Langdon. Spacehog played a show at L.A.’s Viper Room on Monday, but future plans have yet to be announced.
Who would you like to see fronting VR?

Strangely, almost at the same time Jonny Cragg of Arckid posted this:

It's been a while since i last spoke to you and really out of not knowing what to say about the status with Arckid.
The truth is we are in a state of premature retirement. As some of you may be aware we were joined by Richard Steel for a couple of shows last year. This gave way to inevitable conversations about reforming Spacehog. I can now tell you that we are going to start work on a new Hog record next week in LA and if you are in the area we are going to play the Viper Room in Hollywood on Monday (28th) at 11pm.

General Liv Discussion / Site is back
« on: May 14, 2008, 05:44:38 PM »
Hey guys,
sorry about the very long downtime. We had too much traffic for the old server to handle, so we had to purchase a new, dedicated one.
On the one hand, it seems to indicate we are popular, and we will hopefully experience less downtimes and slowness on this new server. On the other hand, though, this server is going to cost us a LOT more money, so we may eventually start running ads on the site to relieve some of the costs, so be prepared.

Happy LLTing!
