Responses for first episode very positive - although some calling it too gruesome and violent.

Very good responses for Liv:

Liv Tyler:well played with guts of steel.. great performance...  #Gunpowder

#Gunpowder was terrific. Cast superb all round, Liv Tyler particularly amazing. Donít think Iíll be able to wait until next week. #iplayer

Liv Tyler has the best fake british accent i've ever seen. And this is coming from someone who's really picky with accents

What an amazing actress Liv Tyler has become! #Gunpowder

I've now watched ep 2 & I'm happy to confirm that the pace picks up- #Gunpowder is really rather good. Tom Cullen is a revelation as Fawkes.

Other thing to say here is that Liv Tyler has the best English accent and is a fantastic in this. #Gunpowder

The Gurdian:
Quote
Thus is the stage set for Gunpowder, the first episode of what looks to be a rather fine three-parter was rolled out last night, with Kit Harington, him off of Game of Thrones, taking (rightful) centre stage as Robert Catesby, the architect of the Catholic fightback.

Guy Fawkes gets only a tiny look-in, as a knifey thug, which is pretty much as it should be historically. Harington dominates, smoulderingly, and Liv Tyler as his cousin Ann Vaux is tremendous. But the chief scene-stealer is Mark Gatiss as Cecil. He simpers, he wheedles, he has something wrong with his neck, he casually orders up unconscionable violenceÖ heís a tremendous villain.

All 3 episodes are now available on BBC iPlayer - for UK only (hint for no UK people: VPN is your friend, and so is Kodi ..  ;))

Watched two episodes till now - very good show! one scene from the second episode has Liv saying the exact sentence Elrond said to her (Arwen) in Lord of the Rings, like copy+paste

Liv Tyler stands out in Gunpowder's second episode, which delivers more excellent nastiness and horror.
...
My favourite strand based on the idea of staying the course belonged to Liv Tylerís character, Anne Vaux (cousin of Catesby). Tyler fitted a lot of unspoken meaning into her scenes. Sitting opposite Lord Robert Cecil (Mark Gatiss) in a house stripped of possessions to pay debts, she listened as the spymaster attempted to persuade her to give up the whereabouts of the conspirators, and her suspicion was mingled with the desire to believe in an offer of help, even though she knew Cecil could never be trusted. It was very affecting in a scene that also managed to give a bit more depth to Gatissí performance. Then Tyler had a couple of excellent scenes with Peter Mullan, who played a priest in hiding who refused to accept violence as the only solution. Together they discussed the nature of strength and faith, and I loved these reflective moments.

Although in a smaller supporting role I think that Liv Tyler deserves a special mention.  I thought she played Anne Vaux convincingly and was the perfect choice for the part.  Aside from some notable TV roles we havenít really seen Tyler in something as challenging or dynamic as The Lord of the Rings for a long time.  Hopefully this is the start of a big comeback for her and we continue to see her taking on roles like this, perhaps historical in nature as they appear to be her forte.

Kit Harrington really did impress me in the leading role as it went on as to begin with he was pretty flat but then picked up in a role which was key to getting the plotters together for the gunpowder plot. Mark Gatiss was extremely creepy and well brilliant at the same time, he really did steal each scene he was in! Liv Tyler put in a strong performance, considering I had no idea she was even in it before I started watching. The only real female character as well, not many women were involved in this story by the seams of it. I must mention Edward Holcroft who was very impressive in the supporting role and I think he could have done with more screen time in all honesty.

But Gunpowder also managed to find an uplifting element in the form of the relationship between Father Henry Garnett (Peter Mullan) and Anne Vaux (Liv Tyler); by shifting the focus in the final third of the episode to their care of each other, there was hope to be found. With few words, they established a mutual respect and love that I really believed in. Between then, Tyler and Mullan ended up having to carry a lonely sense of goodness in a terrible world in a quiet, understated way, without drawing attention to that function. They did a brilliant job of it.

HBO posted their own trailer - click
(notice how they credit only Kit Harington. I guess they forgot about their own "The Leftovers")
