It's a shame really because isn't Stella supposed to be staunchly vegetarian/pro-animal rights? Like she refuses to ever use leather or fur in her errr, collections and stuff.

I doubt she refuses leather but I agree it's a little sad, it should be done whole heartedly and you should care about every aspect of your brand.

I'm sure I read that she does, hasn't she had her own line of vegetarian shoes or something? I dunno maybe I'm getting her confused with someone else.

Yeah, that's Stella. Although, she does use silk...and that's hardly a pro animal rights process.

Maybe it's ethical silk  :P Aparrently they do that now where the silkworms get a nice full life...however full a silkworms life actually is..

As for the Nude argument it seems pretty silly really, I think its clear that Nude is just the name of the perfume since she already has (an)other called just Stella McCartney

 Seems to be a bit fruitless to be a silk worm if you ask me. I mean you either get boiled or you end up a moth and die after like a week.

I think (well it seems to me) it's less about the word Nude and more to do with Stella's association with L'Oreal and her use of the word Nude. If that makes sense.

EDIT: I kinda think if it were just to do with the word, they'd be suing Bill Blass as well.

Trade mark update - Stella McCartney when 'Nude' goes to court

By Michael Coyle

The press were drooling this month as Stella McCartney was sued by a cosmetics company owned by Ali Hewson aka Bono's wife. The dispute concerns use of the word Nude. A company spokesman said "We can confirm that proceedings have been issued by Nude brands against both YSL Beaute (part of L'Oreal), the licensee for our fragrance and beauty business, and Stella McCartney Limited. We can confirm that the allegations are being defended vigorously on our side. The Stella McCartney brand is continuing to grow and expand across the various facets of the business".

If Mrs Hewson et al are to be successful she will have to establish that :-

1. McCartney has infringed the registered trade mark as McCartney's trademark is being used in the course of trade and this trade mark is identical with the Claimant's trade mark in relation to identical goods or services which are identical.

OR

2. McCartney has infringed the registered trade mark as McCartney's trade mark use results in a likelihood of confusion on the part of the public, which includes the likelihood of association with the trade mark.

OR

3. McCartney has infringed the registered trade mark as McCartney's trademark use has infringed as Hewson's trade mark has a reputation in the United Kingdom and the use of McCartney's sign, takes unfair advantage of, or is detrimental to, the distinctive character or the repute of the registered trade mark.

From some law site...personally I think it's stupid.

Worst caption ever "when 'Nude' goes to court"

"Nude" is a pretty obvious and good name for fragrance and make up though, it's not like both have the name Huuh-La-Baloo-Ba.

Now that was a blatant rip off.

I honestly don't think it's just about the word nude, otherwise they'd be suing Bill Blass and a couple of others aswell. It's got to do with something else. Otherwise, it's just flat out stupid and I'd like to be unwavering in my belief that Ali isn't stupid. -_- [/lame]
